i live with suicide and nervous system sensitivity as a result of domestic abuse (clinical diagnosis: ptsd)
personal affiliations: active member of alternatives to suicide communities (wildflower alliance, yarrow collective, kiva centers)
professional and lived understanding of systems (US: health care systems including mental health system, legal system, criminal justice system)
professional affiliations: living beyond suicide, zero suicide, PAUSE (people addressing and understanding suicide experience), IDHA (institute for the development of human arts: transformative mental health), critical suicide studies network
professional network that includes 988, national and international suicide awareness and prevention foundations, US state level suicide prevention decision makers, private facilities at every level of care, health systems, group and independant providers
developed and house a distribution engine (my site + language system) designed to meet people living with suicide as they use the internet to find resources and support
working to expand acces to alternatives to suicide:
- continuous, human-facilitated support (facilitators: critical to success)
- no intake, no pressure
- consent-based, voluntary participation focused on harm reduction w no risk of escalation or intervention
- designed for repeat engagement over time (factual suicide prevention)
- human connection within existing systems positioned as an upstream access layer that complements, integrates, and evolves existing mental health system to meet an unmet need
- goal isn't to eliminates suicide, but to give an alternative to suicide resulting in lowered suicide rates/suicide prevention
- restore dignity in death through awareness around the reality of living w suicide
